There are different ways to prepare an excellent coffee, each with its own characteristics and procedures that influence the result and the taste. The most traditional and ancient method is certainly that of Moka, while more modern tools are the coffee pods, capsules or ground coffee machines.
It is difficult to decree the best method and tool since each of them has its own characteristics that meet different tastes and preferences. The choice is closely linked to personal aspects and it can be very useful to learn more about the various methods for making the right purchase.
What is the Moka and how does it work?
The moka is a type of coffee maker designed by Luigi De Ponti and Alfonso Bialetti in 1933 and represents one of the symbols of Italian industrial design from the twentieth century.
Its operation is very interesting and exploits the principles of physics to offer a unique drink with a typical taste. First of all, the lower part, the kettle, must be filled with water up to the level of the safety valve, then the measuring filter is inserted inside which the ground coffee is placed, which absolutely must not be pressed hard. Subsequently this part is screwed to the upper one and the moka is thus placed on medium-high heat until a temperature slightly below 100°C is reached. This causes an increase in pressure and forces the water to go back up in the area where the coffee is, mixing with it, to then finally reach the upper part, from which it will then be poured into the cups.
To make an excellent coffee with this system you need take great care in cleaning the machinery after using it and at the same time carefully selecting quality raw materials.
What are coffee machines and how do they differ from each other?
Coffee machines are electronic instruments used to dispense drinks based on this ingredient. Their operation is quite simple but making an excellent coffee is not always the same.
You can basically divide these tools into two macro categories, ground coffee machines or systems in pods and capsules.
Le ground coffee machines, from the professional ones in bars to the domestic ones, prepare an excellent coffee but require a skilled user to give a tasty result and an excellent espresso, while the modern pod and capsule systems they have the incredible advantage of offering a perfect espresso in seconds and with incredibly simple operation.
How to Choose Between These Tools?
The criteria on which to base one's choice may be different and in any case all three methods can provide an excellent coffee to be enjoyed at any time of the day.
If you love the taste of tradition, in particular the Neapolitan one, if you are willing to invest time in preparation, maintenance and cleaning, and if you want a product with a more than affordable price, the choice falls on the Moka, the traditional Italian coffee maker.
For those who prefer a solution similar to that of the bar, a creamier espresso and loves to change aroma and blend from time to time, being willing to pay a higher price, the best solution is to buy one coffee machine in capsules or pods, choosing among the numerous offers of systems on the market.
If instead you want to feel real masters in making coffee, you can decide to make your own espresso by emulating all the typical gestures of a barista by purchasing a ground coffee machine, aware of the commitment, application and maintenance it requires to give the best result.
